So I had another appointment this evening. Today’s targets are: the upper lip, center-bottom lip, jaw line, clean-up on the chin and a little on the neck. I haven’t shaved in almost two weeks.

I went in again without the aid of any pain killers or numbing agents, big mistake. I said the last appointment hurt, this one beats it in the pain department hands down.

For starters, the clean-up didn’t involve any waxing so she tweezed every hair along the jaw line, near the ears and the chin. That hurt. Second, the bottom-center lip was rather painful as was anything along the lip line and corners of my mouth. The center area got waxed, ouch.

Really, all the former was about the same pain level as last week (maybe a smudge more in some areas). Next was the upper lip. Fuck that hurt so much, really. Each zap really feels like a prick followed by a sting. I started to tear up. The most painful areas were dead center upper lip, right under the nostrils and along the lip line.

As I stressed through the electro part, then came the upper lip waxing. OMG it wasn’t pleasant but still I was able to muster enough strength to keep it together. The part that really, really got to me was the cleanup tweezing on the upper lip. It took all my strength to not actually just break and cry. Every tweeze was excruciating.

I swear, if someone were to be watching they would suspect I was either having convulsions or being tortured as I was a little vocal during this timeframe of the evening. Next appointment will not be until sometime in January as I’m going back to my parents house for Christmas and I wanna go out in public lol. For next time, I’m going to invest in either a trip to my dentist for a novacaine injection or a prescription topical lidocaine gel.

My only saving grace is that I look forward to a day that I will no longer have to shave my face. I have been taking before and after photos to utilize on my website redesign coming spring 2010.

I won’t lie, electrolysis hurt! I was apprehensive yet again walking into the office for my appointment. I was prepared for some pain but remembering “my taste” last Thursday, I thought I was ready.

Mary, the electrologist, has been using waxing in conjunction with electrolysis for some 20 years now. Basically, she goes to town on your face with the probe, zapping hairs every second. When she is done an area, she waxes it.

Now, I had my legs waxed once years ago and there is a reason why I haven’t had it done since (well two reasons but I’m focusing on pain here). I had to admit though, as much as having areas of your face waxed and as much as that hurts, it only hurts for a second or two. However, she re-waxes areas if enough hairs didn’t come out during the first round and they’re long enough.

So after the waxing, she tweezed any left over hairs. Now its at this point that I’m gonna say that I much prefer the waxing and some tweezing to no waxing and all tweezing. Most of the hairs she tweezed out hurt a good bit and that was over and over and over.

The actual electrolysis was painful but not nearly as much as the waxing and tweezing. There were areas of my chin that were really not happy to be electrocuted and at times I wanted to squeeze a tear out but there were also areas where I barely felt it. For the most part, it hurt but was manageable.

She didn’t go near my upper lip or right under the center part of my lower lip; I am grateful for this today but not looking forward to it next time

All-in-all, $60 spent, not bad, no pain, no gain, period.

Today I had my first taste of electrolysis. I had laser hair removal (reduction) a few years ago but nothing since. The laser helped a lot but as it’s not a permanent solution, many hairs grew back. Now, after a few years it’s gotten to the point that I feel rather embarrassed about my facial hair (again!).

I got a word of mouth reference by my therapist to a local lady who’s been at it for 20 years. She charges $15.00 for every 15 minutes; quite reasonable imho.

I talked to her for about 20 minutes then she was like, "why don’t you hop up here and I’ll do a couple of test hairs?" My adrenalin sky-rocketed at that point. I have to confess that besides the monetary issue, the other reason I haven’t started electrolysis was because of my fear of the pain. It took me a couple of minutes to settle in and let her start. All the while she is being rather cool about it and telling me not to worry about a thing.

I had envisioned this painful like electric shock but honestly, I was all worked up for no reason. It literally felt like tweezing a hair out of my face and a little like a pin prick. However as she went on to the second, third, fourth and fifth hairs, those five little pains started to collectively feel sore. She told me that the first couple of treatments are going to be painful but I think that the pain will be manageable without any sort of numbing cream or novacaine.

If I was to compare a laser pulse to an electro tweeze I’d say that they both are probably about the same level of pain. I was all worked up for nothing. Monday is my first treatment.

Friday was rather low key. I just went home after work and chilled out watching the tube. I had to get to sleep the same time I go to sleep to get up for work because I was gonna get up Saturday morning to go riding. Danielle and I watched some techy and enviro shows on the Science Channel. We’re geeks, I know but the shows are really cool. I’m really into learning about how things are done and how to save the environment.

Saturday I got up early to get ready for the ride. I met Malissa and her husband at Morris Bridge. We were gonna do the 15 mile off-track loop but didn’t quite get it all done. Partly because we got off to a late start and the ever-so-common electrical storm rolled in around noon. We got a lot of riding in though. I think I probably did about 15 miles total that day, just not all on the loop. I couldn’t stay to finish cause I had an appointment with my therapist in Pinellas Park for 3:30pm.

I had an hour to get ready before leaving the house to make my appointment after the ride. The ride was fun and I got a good workout. It was kinda sucky that I ended up riding about 4 miles back on blacktop to the car, in the rain, with lighting striking. Eek

So I made it to my appointment on time but we won’t elaborate much on the details there. I’ll probably talk about this in another post to come. Afterwards I was invited over to a friend’s house for dinner. This friend, Mark, is a new hire at work and he’s really cool. I was invited to have dinner with him and his girlfriend and her two kids. His girlfriend is an amazing cook! We had this really awesome lasagna and banana cheesecake 2 course meal. All made from natural ingredients and from scratch. We pretty much just ended up chatting the rest of the night and drinking. I ended up staying the night with them cause I was kinda drunk lol. I had a fun time though.

Sunday, after I left Mark’s girlfriend’s house, I called up Eve to see if she’d wanna do breakfast. I was hungry and needed some breakfast in me. She had just woken up and we met for breakfast at this mom & pop restaurant. It was one of those kinda shitty diners but it was great lol. Definitely a place to return. I love places like that. She told me about this bad book club that she started and invited me to join. Since neither one of us had anything to do all day we ended up being assholes all day lol.

Our first stop was a used book store to buy my first book. It is a V.C. Andrews book. Apparently every little girls passage into womanhood except me lol. Anyway, the bookstores were all closed since it was Sunday; oops we didn’t realize. Since we were in downtown St. Pete, she brought me to the Vinoy. The Vinoy is a beautiful resort hotel. OMG I would love to stay there! It was a little after noon and we got a drink at the pool. I had a peach frozen margarita, it was very tasty. Eve got a mango twist something which was equally yum! After walking around the hotel for a bit and checking out the history it was time to leave.

Eve had her eye on this dive bar on Central called The Emerald. It was closed so we ended up at Mastro’s for a few beers. We just chatted about anything and everything. We were there for like 4 hours lol. We met this couple. The husband, born in Montreal, Quebec and the wife, I dunno but they have been in the Tampa area for like 4 years. Before that they lived in San Fransisco *melt*. They are a really cool couple. We first met when she offered to buy me a shot of Patrón

I think by the time we left it was like 5pm. Eve and I ended up going to our new friends’ house. They invited us to a party but before the party we made a pit stop at their house. They have such a beautiful interior in the house. It is all older/vintage furniture and accessories. Very, very pretty. I love that style. We ended up having a some more drinks and chilled out to some music.

We hit up the party about 7pm. We were there for about an hour but I really didn’t like it. I was really uncomfortable. I felt sick too at this time since all I had to eat all day was breakfast and I’ve been drinking alcohol for the past 6 hrs. I was uncomfortable because I was at some guy’s house who I didn’t know, I barely knew the couple we went there with. She only knew one guy there. I was just uneasy cause I didn’t wanna get read by any of the guys and something bad happen. It was a sausage fest, really. Only like 3 other girls there and 2 of them were old enough to be my mom or something. Pretty much all the dudes were like late twenties/early thirties. Had I been at a friends house with my friend’s friends, it woulda been a whole different story.

So we left and headed over to a bar/restaurant to get food. We were both starving but my appetite was rather crappy at this point. The only thing that was appetizing was shit food. We had chicken nuggets, nachos, broccoli bites and mozzarella cheese sticks. So yummy Our waitress was so hot too. I was like, if I could, drooling lol. I like eye candy. We were both rather tired after dinner so I drove Eve home. I stopped drinking like at 5:30pm so I could drive cause I live like an hour from her house. By the time I dropped her off it was 10pm and I headed home. I crashed while watching tv with Danielle. It was a very busy day and I finally made it home to sleep in my own bed.

Monday I dragged Danielle outta the house. We went to see Superbad in the afternoon. OMG such an embarrassingly, awesome movie! I laughed a lot. I been wanting to see it but Eve was like YOU HAVE TO SEE IT! I figured it was a good time to see it because afterwards we were going to Malissa’s house for a cookout. “Nice mullet asshole!” The cookout was for 6pm and we were on time. Danielle finally got to meet Malissa and Eve. They’re two of my best friends

The food was immaculate. Eve and Malissa did the cooking and Malissa’s husband did some of the grilling. We had chicken, burgers, asparagus, corn, and broccoli sauteed in soy sauce or teriyaki sauce (can’t tell). We did what we love to do, eat and talk So much fun, good times We ended up home around 10pm. Stupid work!
